NGC 2018 and 2031 in Mensa

NGC 2018 is a large emission and reflection nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), in the constellation Mensa.

The globular cluster towards the left is NGC 2031, also in the LMC. It is estimated to be 150,000 lightyears distant and around 140 million years old.

This RGBHOO image is the result of 66 minutes of RGB and 80 minutes of narrowband remote data capture from Chile, over 2 evenings in January 2025. Hydrogen has been mapped to red and oxygen to both green and blue colour channels. An FLI ML16200 camera was used, through a 20-inch Planewave CDK reflector.
