NGC 7008 Foetus Nebula in Cygnus

This small planetary nebula is located near the border with Cepheus. It is around one lightyear in diameter and 2800 lightyears distant.

Because it only subtends 1.4 arcminutes along its longest dimension, this is probably the smallest object that I have intentionally imaged, expecting any detail.

In this RGBHSO image, hydrogen has been mapped to red and oxygen to blue. It is the result of 2 hours of RGB and 6 hours of narrowband data capture from Horsham, over 4 evenings in August 2024. A ZWO ASI2600MM Pro camera was used, through an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien reflector.
