This galaxy has a bright nucleus and relatively faint spiral arms. It is a Seyfert galaxy with an active nucleus containing an off-centre supermassive black hole. It is approx 40 million lightyears away and 125,000 lightyears across.
It has been speculated that a past merger with a lower-mass compact satellite galaxy, caused warping of the disk and disruption of the spiral arms of NGC 5033.
