NGC 7217 in Pegasus

This ring galaxy is around 50 million lightyears distant and 60,000 lightyears in diameter. It is gas-poor and may be the result of a merger between a small compact galaxy and a larger spiral, several billion years ago.

The nodules in the rings are HII emission regions, while an external nearly-circular stellar halo can be seen in this image.

This image is the result of 6h of RGB data capture from Horsham, over five evenings in September and October 2025. A ZWO ASI2600MM Pro camera was used, through an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien reflector.
