NGC 371 in the constellation Tucana

This shows the open cluster NGC 371 in the Small Magellanic Cloud in the southern hemisphere. It is around 200,000 lightyears distant and the associated nebulosity shows an unusual regularity, almost a hexagon.

The young open cluster NGC 346 with associated nebula, is on the right-hand frame.

This RGBHOO image is the result of just under 4h of remote data capture from New South Wales, over 3 evenings in July 2024. A Moravian G4 16000 camera was used, through a 17-inch Planewave CDK reflector.
