NGC 3953 in Ursa Major

This barred spiral galaxy is approximately 56 million lightyears distant, and one of the 50-strong M109 group of galaxies. At around 110,000 lightyears in diameter, it is similar to the size of our own galaxy. The tightly wound arms are laced with dark dust lanes and several blue star clusters with young, hot stars.

This LRGBHa image is the result of 3.5h of data capture on an evening in January 2022, taken using a ZWO 2600MM Pro cooled mono camera, through an 8-inch Teleskop-Service Ritchey-Chretien reflector.
