This is a weakly-barred spiral galaxy in the southern constellation of Pavo the Peacock. It is around 30 million lightyears distant and thought to be similar in configuration to our own galaxy. However, at 175,000 lightyears across, it is significantly larger.
There is evidence that the dim dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 6744A at lower right, has passed through the disk plane of NGC 6744.
This LRGB image is the result of 2h 15m of remote data capture over two evenings, from New South Wales in March 2021, using a 20-inch Planewave CDK reflector and FLI-PL09000 CCD camera.
