M100 is a 'grand design' spiral galaxy around 55 million lightyears distant, presented almost face-on. It is one of the brightest and largest galaxies in the Virgo Cluster, at approx 110,000 lightyears in diameter. It is a weakly-barred galaxy.
Just above it is the dwarf elliptical galaxy NGC 4322, it's shape distorted by M100. Deep images show that the disk of M100 extends almost to NGC 4322.
This image is the result of 3.5 hours of data capture, over 3 evenings in March and April 2020.
